The Basic Veracart Integration Guide

This is the basic guide to setting up Veracart on your existing website.

===============================================================================

Veracart requires and existing website. If you don’t have an existing site, please let us know and we can setup hosting for you and get you a site.

INTRODUCTION

Veracart uses snippets of code to display various things like, catalog, cart, mini cart, search, etc.

A snippet of code looks like this:

<!– Veracart Code Copyright (c) 2014 –>
<!– Veracart Catalog Items – Do not modify this code –>
<!– Place this code where you want the Catalog Items to appear –>
<script language=”Javascript1.2″ type=”text/javascript”>document.write(vcjCtlgCode);</script>
<!– End of Code –>

Setting up Veracart requires simply copying and pasting the code into sections of your site. If you’re not familiar with how to copy and paste into your website, let us know and we’ll help you.

STEP 1 – BASIC INTEGRATION – Create 2 pages on your site

Navigate to Veracart Admin(http://admin.veracart.com) > CODE found in the MAIN navigation bar near the top of the site.

The basic integration requires two pages to be created on your existing site.

1. catalog.html – used for displaying categories and items and adding items to the cart

2. cart.html – used to display items added to the cart.

(note: catalog.html and cart.html can be renamed to different page names. For the purpose of this tutorial, i wont be changing them. By default they are set to catalog.html/cart.html)

STEP 2 – CATALOG PAGE

On the catalog.html page, copy and past the required HEADER CODE – STANDARD found under:

CODE > Header Code – Standard

into your <head></head> tags. If you don’t know how to do this, fear not, you can past the code into the content area. This “header code” must appear before the next snippet of code. It doesn’t have to be in the <head></head> tags, just anywhere before the below catalog display snippet.

Next copy and paste required CATALOG CODE found under:

CODE > Catalog Codes > Required

into the page where you want the catalog to appear. Usually the “content” area of the site.

STEP 3CART PAGE

On the cart.html page, copy and past the required HEADER CODE – STANDARD found under:

CODE > Header Code – Standard

into your <head></head> tags. If you don’t know how to do this, fear not, you can past the code into the content area. This “header code” must appear before the next snippet of code. It doesn’t have to be in the <head></head> tags, just anywhere before the below cart display snippet.

Next copy and paste the required CART CODE found under:

CODE > Cart Codes > Required

into the page where you want the cart to appear. Usually the “content” area of your site.

CONCLUSION AND VIEWING THE VERACART CATALOG

So now you should have two pages created with the Veracart code on them to display the catalog and cart pages.

Veracart will display nothing if you have not created any categories or items. If you have not created a Category in the Veracart admin please do so now.

Navigate to PRODUCTS > Create New Category

Once you’ve created a category, visit your site at:

yourdomain.com/catalog.html?reload=1

If you do not see the category you just setup, please add ?reload=1 to the end of the URL, as in the example above. This forces the Veracart session to refresh.

If you see the category/categories/items you’ve setup in the Veracart admin, you’ve successfully integrated your site.
